What is Strength and Conditioning?

Strength and Conditioning is the physical and physiological development of the body for sport performance. The role of the S&C coach is to bridge the gap between the theory of training and applied training, helping anyone from somebody new to exercise right up to elite athletes to become faster, stronger and more flexible and to build all components of fitness so they perform better and remain injury free.


Where is Kernow Strength and Conditioning?

Just outside of Newquay :on the road to Cubert and Holywell Bay Unit 7 & 8, Trenissick Rural Park (industrial estate), postcode TR8 5PN.


What is there to do at Kernow Strength and Conditioning?
  • Open gym times – set times throughout the week where you can use the gym and equipment at your leisure
  • Strength and Conditioning coaching classes – a chance to learn new skills and lifts under qualified supervision from basic movements such as the squat to more technical Olympic lifts.
  • BST class – group exercise focusing on burning body fat, endurance, muscle toning and flexibility.
  • Specific ladies only Strength and Conditioning classes – breaking down the old school beliefs shrouding women and training. Build healthier, stronger lean muscle to be fit for life.

How much will it cost me?

There are a selection of different pay structures for gym only, classes and block sessions.


Is Kernow Strength and Conditioning just for body-builders or strongmen who lift heavy weights?

No. Kernow Strength and Conditioning is a facility for everyone with the positive attitude towards improving their personal fitness, being a part of the community and working hard to achieve their goals.


What type of training does Kernow Strength and Conditioning offer?

Kernow Strength and Conditioning has been set up to cater for the following: members of the public looking for something more interesting and effective than their normal commercial gym can offer, Powerlifters, Strongmen, Olympic lifters and athletes/sports teams of all kinds.

You won’t find rows of treadmills or cross trainers. You will find prowler sleds, tractor tyres, indoor turf, dragging sleds, ropes, chains, bands, power racks, benches, plyo boxes, platforms, pulley systems, kettlebells, lots of chalk, a good selection of strongman equipment, and lifting records on the wall. All of these can be used by absolute beginners to exercise, all the way through to serious competitive athletes.
